The art of wearing jewellery
There is a psychological explanation for wearing jewellery as an adornment, based on our need for social contact, love and friendship, but also for recognition and self-fulfilment. Society therefore has a major influence on this habit, which is deeply rooted in our lives.
Women and men have been wearing jewellery since the dawn of time, whether in the form of necklaces, pendants, bracelets, earrings, rings, brooches, tiaras or crowns, we've always loved them.
As well as being decorative accessories, jewellery is also worn for many other reasons. In the past, jewellery could mean and symbolise many things to the people who wore it, and its significance differed from one era and culture to another.
They were worn, for example, to symbolise identity, belonging to a distinct group or people, or as a sign of wealth. It's not for nothing that the kings and queens of the time were covered in fine jewellery and adorned with gold and diamonds.
Some civilisations also wore jewellery to bring positive energies to their bodies and minds, or believed, for example, in the magical powers of a talisman to protect them from curses.
Whether we like it or not, the jewellery we choose to wear still says a lot about our personality and identity!
